Rockhouse’s guiding principles revolve around responsibility, reinvestment, and regeneration. The core tenants of the Rockhouse Credo has remained unchanged since our opening in 1994. The four cornerstones of Our Credo are our commitments to our Guests, our Team, the Community and the Environment:
Our first responsibility is to our guests. We know that vacation time is precious and our goal is to create an experience that exceeds their high expectations. We are committed that our guests return home glowing and rejuvenated from a relaxed and authentic Jamaican experience.
We are responsible to our team, the men and women that work with us. We are committed to fair compensation and share the success of the hotel with our team. We respect their dignity and recognize their merit. All our employees are provided with hotel funded health care and participation in our pension plan. We only employ Jamaicans, and believe in promotion from within, primarily recruiting at the most junior levels, which is why you will find most of the senior management team has been with us for over a decade. We commit to educating, training and growing our team and seek their inclusion in the decision making process. We actively support a non discriminatory workplace in which our team freely contributes ideas, complaints and openly communicates.
We are responsible to the community in which we live and work. Through the Rockhouse Foundation, founded in 2004, the Rockhouse transforms the places where Jamaica’s children learn and supports the great people who teach them. With over US $6 million invested in transforming seven local public schools and libraries, the foundation impacts the lives of thousands of children and their families every day. Rockhouse, Skylark & Miss Lily’s and the owners underwrite all the administrative and fundraising expenses of the Foundation, so every cent of each donation directly supports the projects. Rockhouse Foundation is an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) non profit and a Jamaican registered charity.
We are responsible for protecting and enhancing the environment and have been Environmentally certified for more than 20 years, originally for 10 years by Earthcheck, and for the past decade by Green Globe. We strive to achieve sound environmental practices across our entire operation and comply fully with all environmental laws and regulations. We minimize our use of natural resources, air emissions, and hazardous materials, and monitor and record our environmental performance relative to our policies, objectives and guidelines. We maintain a continuous commitment to improved environmental practices.
The objective of Rockhouse is to create a regenerative balance between all the interested parties, by constantly reinvesting in the guest experience, the team, the environment and the community.
